INCITING INVESTMENTS IN SERBIA – PRECONDIIONS AND LEGISLATIVE FRAMEWORK

On Thursday, January 21, 2016, the Nordic Business Alliance in partnership with the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia organized the event "Inciting investments in Serbia - preconditions and legislative framework“ in the Small plenary hall of the National Assembly in order to share the experience of representatives of Nordic investors in Serbia and that the MPs, members of the Economic Caucus of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and members of the Government of the Republic of Serbia. The main goal was to familiarize the attendees with the factors that influence investment decisions for them to better improve the legislative framework in order to attract new investments and improve cooperation between Nordic companies operating in Serbia, the Government and the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia. Speakers at the meeting were Vladimir Marinkovic, Vice President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Željko Sertić - Minister of Economy of the Republic of Serbia, Dusan Vujović - Minister of Finance of the Republic of Serbia, H.E. Sanes Arne Bjornstad - Norwegian Ambassador to Belgrade Jasmina Vignjević, President of the Board of Governors of Nordic Business Alliance and the honorary guest speaker, President and CEO of Telenor Group, Mr. Sigve Brekke. Below is part of the presentation Ms. Jasmina Vignjević, Chairwoman of the Board of Governors of Nordic Business Alliance in Serbia: "The total volume of foreign trade of Serbia with the Nordic countries in 2014 slightly crossed USD 700 million (EUR 640 million) and accounted for almost 2% of the total foreign trade of Serbia with the world. The export of Serbian products in this region amounted to 152.3 million USD, which is only 1% of total Serbian exports last year. Our goal is to significantly increase this figure. The Nordic Business Alliance and our member companies are places where potential investors come to inquire how to do business in Serbia, such as the investment climate and other conditions for development investment. Therefore, the topic of today's meeting the prerequisites for further development of investment in Serbia. I'm glad to talk about it at the National Assembly in the presence of representatives of legislative and executive authorities. One of the goals of our alliance that is based on our international experience we provide guidance for the further development of the used climate in Serbia with the aim of attracting more investments from the Nordic region. Of great importance to us that legal framework with European trends in the sectors of origin of our company. Nordic companies are well known for the adoption of innovation in their business and in this sense a dynamic framework that facilitates the development of innovation is essential for the further development of the business. Much has been done in the previous year, and the opening of the first chapters of the EU harmonization process gives us confidence in the stability and predictability of the business climate.
